The Cold War was a basically a Arms race between the worlds two superpowers. There was no fighting between The Soviet Union and the United States. Even the first space flight took place during this time
The Korean War
The Korean War was a conflict between Communist North Korea and non-communist South Korea. The United States sided with South Korea since the United States opposed communism. All fighting stopped with a ceasefire.
The Cuban Missile Crisis
The Cuban Missile Crisis started when the Soviet Union transported nuclear weapons to the island of Cuba. The United States got worried since Cuba is only 90 miles away from the coast of Florida. This was the closest the world came to full nuclear war.
The Bay of Pigs Invasion
The Bay of Pigs Invasion was a failed invasion of the island of Cuba. The invasion was designed to take power away from Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. This invasion occurred on April 17, 1961.
First man in space
Yuri Gagarin was the first man in space. He was also the first person to orbit the Earth. The space flight last only 89 minutes.
Second man in Space
Alan Shepard was the second man and first American to go to space. He did not orbit the Earth. The spaceflight lasted only 15 minutes.

Apollo 11 was the space flight that sent three Americans to the moon. Neil Armstrong was the first person to walk on the moon, Buzz Aldrin was the second. The mission started on July 16, 1969 to July 21, 1969.

The Vietnam War was a conflict were communist North Vietnam wanted to take over the non-communist South Vietnam. The United States aided the south from 1965 to 1973. The war continued after the United States left.
Fall of the Berlin Wall
The Berlin wall that divided the city of Berlin from 1961 to 1989. On the East side was the non-communists and the west was the communists. On November 9, 1989 the wall was destroyed.
The end of the Cold War
The Cold War ended with the fall of the Soviet Union. Russia now let its providence's have self-governing independence. All of the happened on December 26, 1991
