As a child Theodore struggled with asthma, but he had a loving family behind him. Young Teedie was a brilliant child who would go on to do many things.
Theodore Roosevelt, the Brilliant young Man
Teedie went on to become a sturdy, intelligent young man. He picked up boxing and wrestling. He also was enrolled into Harvard University, where he began to study many different subjects and only expanded his knowledge in all directions.
The Day His Mother and Wife Died
Teedie got happily married while in college and had a child with his wife, but shortly after that his wife and mother became very sick and passed away within hours of each other. This made Teedie nearly go insane. He left his newly born child with his sister and went off to the Dakota Badlands.
Theodore Roosevelt, There's a New Sheriff in Town
A little while after leaving to go to the Dakota Badlands, Teedie became a sheriff over there. He spent a couple of years as a sheriff and living off the land before coming back after "finding himself" so to say.
The Return of Theodore Roosevelt
When Teedie returned he continued his writing career. Through the span of his life he wrote over 45 books. After continuing his career in writing he took up politics. He was appointed to the U.S. Civil Service Commission by Benjamin Harrison.
The National Park System
Theodore Roosevelt created five different national parks. Crater Lake, Oregon; Wind Cave, South Dakota; Sullys Hill, North Dakota (later re-designated a game preserve); Mesa Verde, Colorado; and Platt, Oklahoma (now part of Chickasaw National Recreation Area).
Theodore Roosevelt, The 26th President
Theodore became the 26th president in 1901. He served two terms which lead him to retire in 1909.
