This is a petition signed by women in New York opposing the suffrage amendment. While the war was going on, women were still denied the right to vote. The 19th amendment was not passed until after the war was over so during the war, women were in a battle of their own fighting for their rights as citizens.

This is a picture of women lined up and enrolling in the war effort. This picture shows direct involvement of women in WW1 because it is a line of women signing up to participate and help in ways for the war effort. Many women in fact saw the war as a way to prove their worth because at this time, women were seen as servants or wives in domestic lives, etc.

In WW1, chemical warfare such as chlorine gas was introduced. Therefore, soldiers used gas masks to protect them from the harmful chemical. This photo shows a group of women working in a gas mask factory to produce masks for soldiers. Although women were not allowed to serve in combat, they found other ways to help the effort such as these which did make a big impact on the war.

This picture shows a woman who is taking the place of a male worker on the great northern railroad. This shows that some women weren’t directly involved in the war but involved by keeping everything running where men left off because of deployment. When men were deployed, their work at home was left and without the help of women, things wouldn't have been kept running. Some of these things as well were crucial to the war such as the railroad to keep transportation moving.
