The UFA cinema "Lichtspiele" in Berlin is one of many places in Weimar Germany, who represent the glorious development of german cinema. Since the early 1920s many german filmmakers revolutionized the the art of film with their creative and innovative work. I now want to introduce you to some of the most important persons in the german movie branch and guide you through the exciting world of the weimar cinema.
Nosferatu
Another famous movie made in Germany is the in 1922 released "Nosferatu" directed by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau. "Nosferatu" is a silent horror film and tells the story of an estate agent who meets his new client, the vampire Count Orlok. Although the movie doesn't use names from it, it is adapted from Bram Stokers 1897 novel "Dracula".
Fritz Lang
Fritz Lang is probably the most famous and influential director of Weimar Germany. Lang first started by making silent movies and had with the two parted movie "Dr. Mabuse, the gambler" in 1922 a huge success. In 1927 Fritz Lang created with the movie "Metropolis" a milestone of international cinema. Later in the 1930s Lang set new standards by making some of Germanies first sound movies "M" and "The testament of Dr. Mabuse".
Metropolis
In studios, like the UFA Studios in Berlin Tempelhof, elaborate sceneries for the movies are made. The UFA is one of 230 film companies in Berlin alone. Also important is the Studio Babelsberg near Berlin, where the movies from Fritz Lang, like "Metropolis" were filmed.
