1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.
2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to
4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.
1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.
2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.
3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!
4. A detailed case study in how to set up a successful QR Scavenger Hunt using this tool can be found here.

1. What is the difference between physical and chemical properties? | Physical properties can be observed. Chemical properties occur at a subatomic level. | 2. If the pH level is above 7, is it basic or acidic?2 | Basic2 | 3. If and element conducts electricity, does it react with hydrochloric acid?3 | No3 | 4. How does a cathode ray react with the negative side of a magnet?4 | It repels.4 | 5. Why was Rutherford surprised when some of the alpha particles bounced back off the gold sheet?5 | Because it meant that the particles were positively charged.5 | 6. What are the wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum?(no specific order)6 | Ultraviolet, infrared, X-rays, gamma rays, micro waves, radio waves, and visible light.6 | 7. What was the name of Bohr's atom model?7 | Planetary Model7 | 8. What happens in the photoelectric effect?8 | A photon and an electron on the surface of a metal collide.8 | 9. What is the Heisenberg uncertainty theorem?9 | It states that it is impossible to determine the exact position and momentum of an electron at the same time.9 | 10. What is the octet rule?14 | Atoms tend to gain or lose electrons during chemical reactions, so that they the atoms have an outer shell configuration of 8 electrons14 | 15. What is an isotope, and what makes an isotope what it is?15 | Isotopes are atoms of the same element that have different masses due to the different number of neutrons.15 | 16. What's the difference between fusion and fission?16 | In fusion atoms combine to from a larger nucleus. In fission, you bombard an atom with a neutron and it breaks into different elements.16 | 17.
