QR Challenge: skydiving quiz

Created using the ClassTools QR Treasure Hunt Generator

Teacher Notes

A. Prior to the lesson:

1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.

2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to

3. Print out the QR codes.

4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.

B. The lesson:

1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.

2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.

3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!

Question

Answer

1.
2. Is there an age limit for skydiving?Yes, the minimum age for tandem skydiving in Australia is 14 years of age and solo skydiving is 16 years of age. Any person wishing to partake in skydiving who is under 18 years of age needs their parent or guardian's permission.
3.
4. What do you have to wear when going skydiving?Comfortable casual clothes, shorts in summer and jeans or tracksuit pants in winter. You will be provided with a pair of skydiving pants or a jumpsuit to wear over your clothes. You may also want to bring a long sleeve t-shirt or sweatshirt. Closed in shoes are a must, sneakers or runners that lace up firmly are preferable.
5.
6. How high do skydivers usually exit? The standard sport skydiving altitude is 12,500 feet AGL (Above Ground Level), sometimes up to 18,000 feet depending on the altitude of the drop zone, type of aircraft and type of jump.
7. What's the highest parachute jump ever made?As of October 14, 2012 the record for the highest parachute jump is 127,852.4 feet (38,969.4 meters), a little more than 24 miles up over the desert near Roswell New Mexico.
8.
9. How fit do I have to be?People of many different shapes and sizes can go skydiving. Tandem skydiving is not highly physically demanding, your instructor does a lot of the work. if you do have any concerns, please consult us or your doctor. There is a weight limit of 100kg, but all prospective jumpers are assessed on their fitness, safety first! Anyone over 80kg or of marginal fitness will be assessed as to their suitability to skydive.
10.
11. How long does it take? From take off to landing takes about 30 minutes.
12.
13. Should I eat before I jump?Yes just eat what you would usually eat.
14.
15. Who is the Australian Parachute Federation (APF)?The APF is the organisation that controls skydiving and parachuting at nearly all the civilian operations in Australia.
16.
17. What if the parachute doesn’t open? There is a second ‘Reserve Chute’, which is used in the unlikely event of the main chute not operating properly. The ‘Reserve Chute’ is checked and repacked every 6 months by a specially certified Packer. There is also an ‘automatic computer activation device’ which will open the parachute if for some reason the instructor does not. A very unlikely situation.
