Teacher Notes

A. Prior to the lesson:

1. Arrange students into groups. Each group needs at least ONE person who has a mobile device.

2. If their phone camera doesn't automatically detect and decode QR codes, ask students to

3. Print out the QR codes.

4. Cut them out and place them around your class / school.

B. The lesson:

1. Give each group a clipboard and a piece of paper so they can write down the decoded questions and their answers to them.

2. Explain to the students that the codes are hidden around the school. Each team will get ONE point for each question they correctly decode and copy down onto their sheet, and a further TWO points if they can then provide the correct answer and write this down underneath the question.

3. Away they go! The winner is the first team to return with the most correct answers in the time available. This could be within a lesson, or during a lunchbreak, or even over several days!

1. QR Codes are placed around the M Building and behind Swenson Hall. There are 10 questions. Some questions have 2 or 3 parts. Please be sure that every team member gets a chance to answer the questions. You will need to record your responses and create a movie. Please be sure that your responses are serious and not goofy. Please keep track of how many QR codes you scan. You will have 3 days to do your recordings and complete your video so manage your time wisely.

3. Describe and explain something about yourself that you would be comfortable sharing online. What social media website do you use to share it and why that choice?
4. Describe something that you would not share online. Explain why not.
5. Using one of the apps on the Ipad draw a chart to describe the positives and negatives of the various social media websites you and your friends use. How are the audiences for each one different?
6. If a friend shared something with you that they probably should not, what would you do? What would you not do?
7. If an adult could see all your online posts and messages what would they like and what would they dislike? Why?
8. How do you decide who to share something with and who not to share something with?
9. Are there different rules if someone tells you something online rather than in real life? Why?
10. If you make a mistake online, who can you go to for help?
11. Should adults be allowed to see everything you put online? Why or why not?
12. If you could completely remove something you put online forever, what would it be? Explain why.
